These is a random list of things I’ve tried on Pinterest lately that I wanted to share! People love to bash and roll their eyes at Pinterest but it was pretty much made for me. Someone who wants to learn to sew to save money, decorate frugally, eat healthier, cook cheaper, clean faster, and be a fun mom. And spends periods of time cuddling on the couch watching Sesame Street – perfect pinning time.
Not messy + edible things I had on hand = good idea! Kylie was a little more interested in breaking the noodles and eating the cheerios, but she had fun and did get the point for awhile.
I’ve tried a lot of sugar cookie recipes, and these are a new favorite. They are fluffy and not super sweet. I didn’t make the icing so I put the almond extract in the cookie – so good! I just dropped spoonfuls on the the cookie sheet, so I can’t vouch for how the dough is to work with. They didn’t spread much, though.
Homemade Ant Killer
This was a FAIL. We had an ant problem along an inner wall and I wanted to try a dog-safe solution while we were waiting for the exterminator. I read from a number of pins that yeast, cornmeal, and baking soda can be fatal to ants. So I made of mixture of those plus honey. The ants loved it, but even after a few days there were just more of them. I also tried putting bay leaves and cinnamon along the wall and they crawled right over them. Since the exterminator came I haven’t seen a single ant.
AMAZING. I’m not even a big cake person and I had to make this after someone brought it to Bible Study. I made mine in an angel food cake pan because I don’t own a bundt pan, and I had to cook it a little longer.
I was completely skeptical about this and was shocked at how good it is. And if I leave out the chocolate chips, these are ingredients I always have on hand – perfect for the random sweet tooth without overdoing it.
This is a splurge-y dinner because refrigerated tortellini is not cheap and I haven’t found a good frozen one. But this was really good! I like the potato in it. And I left out the chicken.
This is my newest easy dinner. Instead of the sauce I just use a whole jar of salsa, and I add chopped green pepper with the corn. I‘ve also made it with refried beans. You could do so many things with this – add meat, more veggies, cut back on the cheese. Gotta love a one pan, dump it in there and bake meal! It’s hard to find healthy casseroles.
Don’t be scared! I will never tell you that eating vegan actually tastes better, because I do not think that at all. But this is so good!! And it doesn’t have a lot of weird ingredients, though pecans are soo expensive. My coconut milk never solidified, so we had it without a topping and it was still quite sweet. I think this will be a great alternative to candied yams or sweet potato casserole.
Obviously I mostly love Pinterest for recipes. :) It has been so helpful with trying to eat healthier! I have enough friends that eat plant based, paleo, or clean that there are always great ideas in my feed. And of course the occasional cake and cookie. It would take me years to get through my dessert board!
